State Land Office seeks developers for sa国际传媒官网网页入口 properties aimed at affordable housing
The office is accepting proposals through July 6 for parcels spread across the city
New Mexico State Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard is recruiting companies to develop four sa国际传媒官网网页入口 properties to improve the local economy and add housing for low-income families.
On Monday, the State Land Office announced it is looking for developers to build on four state trust properties, ranging in size from just under an acre to 2 acres. They are located at the corner of Bataan and Coors SW, 10408 Central SE, 421 Cutler NW and 230 Truman NE.
鈥淭he available properties present diverse options for potential future developers,鈥 Garcia Richard said in a statement. 鈥淭hey are in varied locations too, with one site in each of the city鈥檚 four quadrants. We hope that this diversity of options will result in four development projects that will truly help revitalize the surrounding neighborhoods.鈥
State Land Office spokesperson Joey Keefe said the properties were chosen, in part, because they are all zoned for mixed-use development, meaning that they can be used for affordable housing or other economic development projects.
Locations like Bataan and Coors SW, for example, are ideal for housing because of the parcel鈥檚 layout and proximity to other housing developments. Other spots like Cutler Avenue 鈥渃ould offer other economic development opportunities given its proximity to (Interstate) 40,鈥 he said.
In a phone interview, Garcia Richard said the State Land Office is 鈥渞eaching out to developers to let them know state lands are available within sa国际传媒官网网页入口 city limits that could be ideal for housing or economic development.鈥
鈥淲e are hoping this proactive approach leads to a larger-than-normal number of quality proposals so we can find the development projects that will best meet the needs of the city,鈥 she said.
The State Land Office is accepting proposals through July 6.
鈥淚t will likely be at least a few months after that before any developments break ground,鈥 Keefe said. 鈥淥ur staff will have to review all proposals received to determine their viability, and we will then need to enter into a leasing agreement with any developers whose projects are selected. This fall is probably the earliest we would see any projects break ground.鈥
In the past, the State Land Office partnered with local housing developers. For example, the office leased property that nonprofit Sol Housing used to build Luminaria and Farolito, senior living and housing communities in the Northeast Heights.
