Looking for a hot time this weekend? Check out the Bosque Chile Fest
In New Mexico, you can find chile everywhere.
On Saturday, Aug. 23, look no further than the Bosque Chile Fest, which has been toasting 鈥 and roasting 鈥 New Mexico鈥檚 state vegetable for over 10 years.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a celebration of all things chile. Chile is such an important thing to New Mexico and to our culture here,鈥 Austin Munn, Bernalillo County communications specialist, said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 in everything. And so this is Bernalillo County鈥檚 little homage to chile, both red and green.鈥
Munn said the festival is family-friendly and people of all ages can come out and have a good time.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not even just all about the chile. I think people really just enjoy having a place that they can congregate in and celebrate in.鈥
The event strives to be a fully immerse visitors into the world of chile.
鈥淥ne of the things we like to say is, it鈥檚 chile for all five senses: look, touch, taste, feel and smell,鈥 Munn said.
Vendors will sell everything from chile art to chile earrings, and there will be many chile-themed activities.
鈥淲e鈥檙e gonna have some arts and crafts for the kids and for the whole family,鈥 Munn said. 鈥淎nd there鈥檒l be live music, cooking demonstrations, chile roasting demonstrations, all sorts of stuff like that.鈥
Planned festival demonstrations include 鈥淗ow to Make a Chile Ristra鈥 and 鈥淪abor Salsa,鈥 where eventgoers can learn to make appetizers and dip.
鈥淚f you鈥檙e into chile, this is the event for you,鈥 Munn said.
There are also all types of chile-focused foods at the festival.
鈥淭here鈥檚 a new food vendor and they鈥檙e coming in with a red chile creme brulee,鈥 Munn said. 鈥淚 know that鈥檚 one of the things that I鈥檓 kind of excited for.鈥
Munn said you can expect to learn something new about chile.
鈥淚t really is just a way to come and find out so many different things that you can do with chile,鈥 Munn said.
