Comedian Ali Siddiq brings ‘Custom Fit’ tour to saʴýҳ’s Kiva Auditorium
The comedy veteran also has a new special, ‘My Father,’ releasing June 21
Ali Siddiq said those who know his work know he likes long stories, and he’s bringing them to saʴýҳ.
Siddiq started doing stand-up in 1997 and has since done numerous specials, including “Ali Siddiq: My Two Sons” and a four-part series, “The Domino Effect.” He said those interested in seeing his works can go to his YouTube channel, “Ali Siddiq Comedy,” which streams a 24-hour feed of all his specials.
He has done stand-up in New Mexico before with his “In the Shadows” tour and will be bringing his “Custom Fit” tour to the Kiva Auditorium on Saturday, May 30.
“I’ve been doing it for almost 29 years,” he said.
“My style hasn’t changed,” Siddiq said. “The stories have just changed due to more kids, more life situations, you know, just growing as a person.”
He said his comedic style is long, detailed stories inspired by his life, so the stories he tells today aren’t the same as when he was young.
“I’m 52 years old, so I’m not the same as I was when I was 25,” Siddiq said. “Different stories, different things happen.”
Over his years in comedy, he has won several awards, including three Webby Awards for his special “Rugged” and a NAACP Image Award for “My Two Sons.” His new special, “My Father,” releases Sunday, June 21.
After more than two decades in the profession, Siddiq said he has not had a moment when he felt he has made it in comedy, because it is an ever-evolving journey he never plans to quit.
“Comics don’t retire, we die and hopefully we can do it on stage,” Siddiq said.
