Vintage finds, ‘Balloons Over Route 66’ and a little night music: 7 events this week

It’s with deep sorrow that I report my formative years have now entered vintage status. It’ll be a blast from the past this weekend at the Totally Rad Vintage Fest. Or check out one of these other options that are all that and a bag of chips.

Sounds of summer

Hillary Smith and the Chill House Band, along with Memphis P-Tails, will play at Winrock Park at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 29. The event is part of a series of free concerts through July. Food trucks will be on site and eventgoers are welcome to bring chairs to the concert. Winrock Park is located at 2100 Louisiana Blvd. NE. Visit ampconcerts.org to register.

A fair time

saʴýҳ Disability Arts Collaborative is hosting an arts and crafts fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 30, and an evening fundraiser from 5-8 p.m. that features performances from Paul Hunton of Dust City Opera, DanceAbility, Brazilian jiu jitsu and more. The events will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona St. NE. The arts and crafts festival is free, and tickets to the evening fundraiser are $28 at adacnm.org.

An ambient atmosphere

Sandia Soundscapes is hosting “An Evening with Michael Stearns,” part of a series of electronic and electro-acoustic concerts, at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 30. The performance by ambient and cinematic musician Michael Stearns features synthesizers, guitar, and percussion, as well as his own field recordings. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 day of the show, plus fees, at fusionnm.org. Fusion | The Cell is located at 700 First St. NW.

Tubular!

The Totally Rad Vintage Fest is coming to the saʴýҳ Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30. Browse vendors specializing in clothing, accessories and more from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Tickets are $12-$30 at totallyradvf.com. The Convention Center is located at 401 Second St NW.

‘Balloons Over Route 66’

From 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 31, the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum will open its new exhibit “Balloons Over Route 66,” featuring a mural developed by local artist Jessey Sandoval. Visitors can snap a picture and meet Sanchez and the 43 youth artists who brought the work to life. The Anderson Abruzzo saʴýҳ International Balloon Museum is located at 9201 Balloon Museum Drive NE.

Bravissimo!

The saʴýҳ Concert Band, a 2026 Creative Bravos Award recipient, will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, as part of a free summer concert series at the Anderson Abruzzo saʴýҳ International Balloon Museum. Concertgoers are invited to bring blankets or chairs. The museum is located at 9201 Balloon Museum Drive NE, but attendees are asked to enter through gate BM-6 on the east side of the building.

A classical night

The New Mexico Philharmonic will perform “Tetiana Plays Beethoven,” featuring 2019 Olga Kern International Piano Competition gold medalist Tetiana Shafran, at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31. Guest conductor Eckart Preu will lead the orchestra. Tickets are $34-$78 at nmphil.org. saʴýҳ Theatre at the National Hispanic Cultural Center is located at 1701 Fourth St. SW.
