19-year-old man arrested after Santa Fe shooting, standoff
Residents of a Santa Fe apartment complex sheltered in place for several hours Sunday morning before authorities arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of firing a gun at a female.
The Santa Fe Police Department and Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office arrested Jerome Jeremy Gurule, 19, on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer at around 8:30 a.m, according to a Santa Fe police Facebook post.
Police were called at 2:30 p.m. to the 1400 block of Zepol Road after, police said, Gurule was arguing with his girlfriend and he fired a shot at another female who tried to separate them. She was not struck, according to police.
Investigators determined Gurule might try to go to his grandparents' residence at the Casa Rufina Apartments, 2323 Casa Rufina Road, which is outside of city limits, according to the Facebook post.
An officer and deputy responded and found Gurule's vehicle and saw him enter his grandparents' apartment.
A perimeter was established and residents were told through a reverse 911 call to remain in their apartments beginning at 4:43 a.m. A SWAT team ultimately entered the apartment and arrested Gurule at about 8:15 a.m., and the shelter in place order was lifted about 20 minutes later, police said.
