Gregg Hull clinched the Republican nomination for governor Tuesday, setting up a primary election showdown with Democrat Deb Haaland.

The former Rio Rancho mayor bested GOP rivals Doug Turner and Duke Rodriguez to advance to the November general election, getting about 47% of the votes cast in the three-way race, according to unofficial results.

While Hull will likely enter the general election cycle as an underdog against Haaland, he predicted a victory to his supporters gathered in sa国际传媒官网网页入口 for an Election Night party.

"This fall, we will face Deb Haaland in the general election, and we're going to win," Hull said.

"It is a choice between an economy that works for everyone or one that keeps too many New Mexicans in poverty," he later added.

However, New Mexico Democrats wasted little time in labeling Hull as a "MAGA mayor," with state Democratic Party chairwoman Sara Attleson describing him as "extreme and wrong for New Mexico."

Before polls closed, Hull spent Election Day making stops at five different polling locations in the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 metro area and said he felt confident about his chances.

He also thanked his two opponents, saying, "I intend to earn the support of every voter who cast a ballot for each of you tonight, and that's what we have to do is come together and unify."
