Col. Peck鈥檚 Story

The Journal published multiple excerpts beginning in November 1945, through January of the next year.
鈥淟ife Hung in Balance When Japs Had Diary鈥 read a story headline published Nov. 11, 1945. The article described how Peck鈥檚 captors found and confiscated his diary. He feared serious repercussions, but instead, his diary was inexplicably returned. In the Nov. 11 excerpt, he credited his fellow prisoners鈥 鈥減atience under adverse conditions鈥 and the 鈥渦ncomplaining care of each other鈥 for their survival.
