NM workforce officials discuss labor challenges with Mexico leadership
New Mexico officials are working to strengthen cross-border economic ties.
Earlier this month, leadership from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions met with Chihuahua's Secretary of Labor and Social Security Di贸doro Siller Arg眉ello in Las Cruces to discuss workforce and economic challenges.
DWS Secretary Sarita Nair and State Workforce Development Board Chair Josh Orozco made the trip, along with representatives from the U.S. Department of State, the federal entity responsible for foreign policy and relations.
The leadership discussed New Mexico workforce programs, including unemployment insurance, employment services, work opportunity tax credit, veterans鈥 services and migrant worker programs, and Mexico employment and educational programs.
Siller Arg眉ello said in a statement that officials need to strive for fair resolutions in labor conflicts.
鈥淭his meeting was a great first step in that direction,鈥 he said.
Nair in a news release said they discussed reforms for quicker and more efficient resolution of workers鈥 claims. The officials also talked about cross-border recruiting, upskilling initiatives and workers鈥 rights, according to the news release.
"By working together, we can create innovative solutions to shared challenges and promote economic development and workforce development that benefits both sides of the border,鈥 Nair said.
Orozco said by sharing resources and expertise, the nations can find solutions to common challenges and generate economic growth.
