Spirit Airlines cuts sa国际传媒官网网页入口 flights amid financial woes

Budget carrier Spirit Airlines has discontinued all flights to and from the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 International Sunport this month following the company鈥檚 second bankruptcy filing in a year.

Spirit stopped flying out of the Sunport effective Oct. 3, according to Sunport spokesperson Leah Black. The company had offered low-cost nonstop flights between sa国际传媒官网网页入口 and Las Vegas, Nevada, since 2022.

Spirit plans to cease operations this month in 12 cities, including sa国际传媒官网网页入口; Oakland, San Diego, Sacramento and San Jose, California; Birmingham, Alabama; Boise, Idaho; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Columbia, South Carolina; Macon, Georgia; Portland, Oregon; and Salt Lake City.

Reuters at the beginning of October that the low-budget airline was cutting nearly half of its fleet in an attempt to scale back costs as part of its filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company in September also said it would cut before the end of the year.

鈥淲e value our partnership with Spirit and appreciate the service they鈥檝e provided to our community,鈥 Black said. 鈥淭his decision was part of a broader change impacting multiple markets.鈥

Customers can still fly from sa国际传媒官网网页入口 to Las Vegas five times a day via Southwest Airlines, the Sunport鈥檚 largest carrier by market share, Black said. Spirit made up less than 1% of Sunport flights before its exit.

Representatives for Spirit Airlines did not respond to a request for comment.
