Press here for books: NW ABQ school unveils book vending machine
There鈥檚 a new vending machine in the hallways of Marie Hughes Elementary School in Northwest sa国际传媒官网网页入口, but this one is unique.
Instead of dispensing snacks or drinks, this machine will offer books to its customers.
This $6,000 machine was anonymously donated to the school in the name of the Taylor Ranch Neighborhood Association. It was unveiled to students and their families during the school鈥檚 literacy night on Tuesday.
There are roughly six similar machines at other schools in the district.
The vending machine will only accept special tokens as payment. Jenna Bludworth, the school鈥檚 principal, explained that students could earn these tokens through good behavior, attendance and test scores.
Bludworth also hopes the machine will inspire more students to get excited about reading.
鈥淥ur goal is to create a love of reading that turns them into adult readers,鈥 she said. 鈥淚f (our students) can find a book they connect with, it can be life-changing.鈥
