Highland High鈥檚 multi-sport athlete Rebecca Neal on Monday signed to compete in the heptathlon with Division I Delaware State.

Neal, the Journal鈥檚 2024-25 Female Metro Athlete of the Year, is one of the most versatile track and field athletes in the state. She competes in six of the seven field events (everything except the pole vault), plus the 100 and 200.

She already is qualified for state in the shot put, discus, high jump, 100 and 200.

Neal, 18, competes in four sports for Highland.

She plays soccer, basketball and track and field, and also is a state champion powerlifter. The state competition for powerlifting is coming up this weekend in Rio Rancho.

Delaware State, in Dover, is an HBCU school, which Neal said was one of the attractions signing there.
