BOOKS ON THE BOSQUE

Carlos and Paul Meyer, brothers and co-authors of the award-winning graphic novel 鈥淯nder the Cottonwood Tree, El Susto de la Curandera鈥� will discuss the book at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Books on the Bosque. The story is set in 1949 in the village of Algodones, which is stirred by a strange magic. An enchanted cookie transforms Carlos Lucero from a boy into a black-and-white calf. His older brother Amadeo must find a way to change him back. Santa Fe educator-author Nasario Garc铆a praised the tale as 鈥渆ngrossing, riveting, but humorous whereas the colorful and spellbinding illustrations add to the aura of magic and suspense.鈥� The book was the first-place winner for Best Graphic Novel in the 2019 International Latino Book Awards. Carlos Meyer is a Santa Fe resident, while his brother Paul Meyer resides in California. The book鈥檚 illustrator is Margaret Hardy.

BOOKWORKS

Joni Wallace will read from 鈥淟andscape with Missing River,鈥� her fourth collection of poems, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW. The poems in the collection are elegies to her late father, a Los Alamos scientist who spent his later years on the banks of the Animas River in northern New Mexico. Wallace lives in Tucson.

COLLECTED WORKS

Poets Tina Carlson and Katherine DiBella Seluja will read from their new books at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Collected Works, 202 Galisteo St., in Santa Fe. Carlson鈥檚 is titled 鈥淎 Guide to Tongue Tie Surgery,鈥� and Seluja鈥檚 is 鈥淧oint of Entry.鈥� Carlson and Seluja are both Santa Fe residents. 鈥� Then, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, Hersch Wilson talks about his new book 鈥淒og Lessons: Learning the Important Stuff from Our Best Friends.鈥� He will be in conversation with Ben Swan and Murad Kirdar of the Espa帽ola Humane shelter. Wilson, a Santa Fe resident, is also the author of the book 鈥淔irefighter Zen: A Field Guide To Thriving in Tough Times.鈥�

鈥楾HE DARK SIDE OF GRACE鈥�

Terra Nova Books of Santa Fe is the publisher of 鈥淭he Dark Side of Grace,鈥� a thriller by Ronald Chapman. The novel opens with a terrorist bomb blast at a spiritual retreat center near Glorieta. The blast sends journalist Kevin Pitcairn and his friend Emmy on a cross-country quest to explore the notion of innocence, injury and ordeal and to understand the roots of violence. The thriller is a sequel to 鈥淎 Killer鈥檚 Grace.鈥�

Chapman, who lives in Atlanta, is a former sa国际传媒官网网页入口 resident who had been an award-winning commentator on KUNM-FM. He is a leadership facilitator for divisions of the federal Centers for Disease Control and for the World Health Organization.
