Guitarist Daniel Lippel to make Chatter debut
Guitarist Daniel Lippel will play his debut concert with Chatter on Sunday, March 31.

Guitarist Daniel Lippel first learned about Chatter from musical colleagues who had played the Southwest.
鈥淭hey鈥檝e got a really good model and a devoted audience,鈥� Lippel said in a telephone interview from his New York home.
Lippel will play his debut concert with the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 chamber music group on Sunday, March 31.
Lippel will perform a solo program featuring music by J.S. Bach, Pulitzer Prize winner Tania Leon, the German composer Reiko F眉ting and more.
鈥淚鈥檝e been playing guitar for 36 years,鈥� Lippel said. 鈥淚鈥檓 very active playing a lot of contemporary classical music.鈥�
The guitarist will play Bach鈥檚 鈥淪uite in C minor鈥� and his 鈥淧relude, Fugue and Allegro in E-flat major.鈥�
鈥淭he guitar didn鈥檛 exist when he was alive,鈥� Lippel said. 鈥淪o he wrote for keyboard in a style that sounds like a lute. The music is easily adapted to the guitar.鈥�
He described the pieces as 鈥渕ore like instrumental church music.鈥�
Lippel will bring a well-tempered fretboard to play the works. He鈥檒l exchange the fretboards to produce different tunings.
鈥淚t means I can play the Bach pieces in the tunings that existed in his lifetime.鈥�
He鈥檒l also perform F眉ting鈥檚 鈥渨and-uhr 鈥� infinite shadows.鈥�
鈥淗e鈥檚 written me a handful of pieces,鈥� Lippel said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 in an alternate tuning. It also incorporates a good deal of percussion on the instrument and some light stomping.鈥�
The Cuban American composer Leon penned 鈥淧aisanos Semos.鈥� The piece is an homage to peasants that till the soil; its structure is conceived organically by the composer as a sprouting seed.
When he was growing up in New Jersey, Lippel picked the guitar after hearing the distorted tones of Jimmy Page.
鈥淚 just got really excited and said, 鈥業 want to do that,鈥� 鈥� he said.
He began private lessons. His teacher played him some Bach, and he was converted.
鈥淚 guess I got hooked,鈥� Lippel said.
