Lavender in the Village continues its support of the agricultural community
The 2023 Lavender in the Village poster is 鈥淟avender Monsoon鈥 by David Welch. The event takes place on Sunday, July 23, in Los Ranchos de sa国际传媒官网网页入口.
It鈥檚 all coming up 鈥 lavender.
The annual Lavender in the Village is back in Los Ranchos de sa国际传媒官网网页入口 and offers more than 100 vendors selling everything lavender.
Dean Strober, of Blue River Productions, says the event is bigger this year with plenty for the family.
鈥淲e鈥檝e gone from one stage to three stages,鈥 he says. 鈥淭here will be simultaneous live music, seminars and local farmers.鈥
Strober is helping the Rio Grande Community Farm put on the annual event. Proceeds from the festival go to the organization, which helps local farmers.
鈥淭he biggest change for me is that the reins have been handed over to the Rio Grande Community Farm,鈥 he says. 鈥淚t made sense for the existing nonprofit board to manage and coordinate it.鈥
The Rio Grande Community Farm operates a farm on public land using sustainable agricultural methods with the goal of growing food as well as demonstrating these methods for the farming community.
It blends the best of traditional agricultural practices with more progressive strategies to improve yield, conserve water and improve soil fertility.
The organization also provides year-round education programs and special events that teach the community about sustainable agriculture, organic gardening, nutrition and wildlife.
It trains young farmers and engages them in the process of farming public land for the public good.
鈥淲e鈥檝e got a lot of boutique events that we鈥檝e partnered with local businesses,鈥 he says. 鈥淎 portion of every ticket goes to the Rio Grande Community Farm.鈥
The vendors will sell everything from lavender plants to soaps and lotion.
鈥淪ome vendors sell lemonade, fine art and jewelry,鈥 he says. 鈥淎ll of the items incorporate lavender in some way.鈥
In addition to the Lavender in the Village event, Strober says on Saturday, July 22, there will be two events.
The first is a Lavender 5K/10K Run begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at Alvarado Elementary School, 1100 Solar Road NW. Parking for racers will be located at the Larry P. Abraham Agri-Nature Center, 4920 Rio Grande Blvd. NW, or Los Poblanos Open Space, 5601 Tierra Viva Place NW. There is no parking at Alvarado Elementary School or along Nabor and Solar roads. Registration is at .
Then beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 22, there will be a Fundraising Salsa Concert & Dance Party.
鈥淓very event benefits the community,鈥 Strober says. 鈥淲hether it鈥檚 the run or the dance fundraiser, proceeds go back to the community to keep making it better.鈥
