Beyond the Universe: The Flickerwerm migration hits Meow Wolf during ‘PԴdzԴdz’
Join actors, puppets and dancing in an interactive quest through the ‘House of Eternal Return’
The Flickerwerm migration has arrived at Meow Wolf's “House of Eternal Return.”
Visitors can join the interactive performance of puppets, actors, dancing and more, during the roaming quest, “Phenomenomaly.”
“Phenomenomaly” is a 45-minute show that journeys through various rooms in the “House of Eternal Return.” Eventgoers can choose to follow George or the duo Lintley and Wavelynn as they search for four items.
“We gathered for the great Flickerwerm migration,” said James Gruessing, who portrays George.
Gruessing said George is everyone’s “favorite dad friend.” He’s loaded with dad jokes and tchotchkes from his world travels and helps kick off the quest, Gruessing said.
The whole “Phenomenomaly” adventure is centered around helping the “Keepers of Obscurity” open a portal, triggering the Flickerwerm migration.
“In order for them to open the portal, we need to gift them with everyday objects,” Gruessing said.
Once the Keepers of Obscurity get the objects, there is “one last moment of energy, a sudden spark, and they get together, and they migrate, and it is beautiful,” Gruessing said.
The four items are initially a mystery. The adventure kicks off near the exhibit’s entrance and soon wanders into the house.
Wavelynn, who resembles an otherworldly bug and is played by Sienna Allen, explains to eventgoers what a Flickerwerm is.
“(They’re) these little creatures, and they glow, and it’s kind of rare to see them,” Allen said. “It’s kind of like, like an eclipse, or like a comet, you know? They come through every once in a while. They’re kind of magical.”
As participants follow George, Lintley and Wavelynn through the exhibit, they interact with the characters and encounter the mysterious keepers, with the quest ending near the concert stage and the Flickerwerm migration begins.
Gruessing said the “last moment of energy” is a dance number by the keepers, preceeded by a performance from a local Santa Fe act. The lineup for this summer includes Carlos Medina, the Lightning Boy Hoop Dancers, CoCo Caliente and more.
Once the keepers begin opening the portal, a few participants have a chance to join in. They are handed a glowing light and follow the keepers as they go on a parade throughout the center of the “House of Eternal Return.”
“My favorite part is everyone who helps us along the way,” Allen said. “I mean, we’ve got some different items we’ve got to find, and everyone here is part of helping us find that.”
