Orchids, letterpress and history: 7 events this week

Full of glee

The Pomona College Glee Club is bringing its 2026 concert tour to sa国际传媒官网网页入口 and Santa Fe this week with two free performances. First up, the choir will sing at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at the Cathedral of St. John, 318 Silver Ave. Then, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, the choir will perform at the New Mexico Museum of Art鈥檚 St. Francis Auditorium, 107 W. Palace Ave. in Santa Fe. 

Grand finale

The Placitas Artists Series is concluding its 39th season with a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 24. Violist Kimberly Fredenburgh will lead the Altura Ensemble with oboist Kevin Vigneau, bassist Toby Vigneau, flutist Anastasia Samsel and pianist Judith Gordon, through a program that includes two world premieres: 鈥淟ow Agenda鈥  by Gernot Wolfgang and 鈥淢eraki鈥 by Colin Martin. There will be a preconcert talk at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30 at placitasarts.org. Las Placitas Presbyterian Church is located at 7 Paseo de San Antonio in Placitas.

Fit to print

鈥淧rinted at the Palace,鈥 an exhibit centered on the letterpress print shop located inside the Palace of the Governors, is now open through Dec. 1, 2027. 鈥淧rinted at the Palace鈥 showcases a selection of flyers, prints, books and more created at the Palace Press. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and admission is $7 for New Mexico residents, $12 for nonresidents, and free for qualified individuals at nmhistorymuseum.org. The New Mexico History Museum is located at 113 Lincoln Ave. in Santa Fe.

A Volt of energy

Belgian artist Ghalia Volt is bringing blues and rock 鈥檔鈥 roll to Unit B at Chocolate Maven at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, before opening for Tab Benoit at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the KiMo Theatre. Tickets for Volt鈥檚 Wednesday performance are $33-$55 at ampconcerts.org. Tickets for the KiMo performance are $34-$55 at  artsandculture.cabq.gov. Unit B is located at 821 W. San Mateo Road in Santa Fe. The KiMo is located at 423 Central Ave. NW.

A state history

State Historian Rob Martinez will speak on 鈥淐asta: Race & Identity in Colonial New Mexico鈥 at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24, as part of the Corrales Historical Society鈥檚 Speaker Series. In the free talk, Martinez 鈥渆xamines the role of racial mixing, identity and the categorizing of humans living in Spanish Colonial New Mexico.鈥 The Historic Old San Ysidro Church is located at 966 Old Church Road in Corrales.

A blooming a good time

The New Mexico Orchid Guild is hosting an Orchid Show and Sale from 1-5 p.m. Friday, May 22, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 23. Admission is free. The sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Garden Center is located at 10120 Lomas Blvd. NE. 

Hosting heritage

It鈥檚 Heritage Day at Casa San Ysidro: The Guti茅rrez Minge House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 23. The free event lets visitors learn about the rare artifacts from the museum, participate in historical activities, learn about heritage arts and more. Casa San Ysidro is located at 973 Old Church Road in Corrales.
