BOOK NOTES
Peter Stark to discuss ‘The Lost Cities of El Norte’ at two events
IN SANTA FE AND IN ALBUQUERQUE
Peter Stark, a historian and an adventurer, will discuss his new book, “The Lost Cities of El Norte: Coronado’s Quest, The Unconquered West and the Birth of American Indian Resistance,” at two events in New Mexico.
At 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, Stark will be at Collected Works, 202 Galisteo St., Santa Fe, and at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16, he will be at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW.
Stark’s narrative is about conquistador Francisco Coronado’s 1540 expedition across 2,500 miles of the uncharted American interior.
That journey spans present-day California, through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and finally Kansas, where the Coronado-led expedition was turned back by Indigenous people and he retreated, bedraggled, to Mexico City two years later.
