APD helps find three lost hikers in the Sandia Mountains

Three hikers were found Saturday night after being lost in the Sandias.

At about 9 p.m., the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Police Department's Open Space Unit was called to help find the hikers on the La Luz Trail in the Sandia Mountains, APD spokeswoman Franchesca Perdue said.

Officers along with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office's Open Space Unit and sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Mountain Rescue Council team hiked about 6 miles in deep snow and below freezing temperatures before finding the hikers, Perdue said.

One hiker suffered from cold exposure and was airlifted to a local hospital. Their injury was not considered to be life-threatening while the other two hikers were evaluated by medical staff before leaving on their own accord, she said.

New Mexico State Police air support unit also assisted in the rescue efforts, Perdue said.
