CYFD unveils child protective services dashboard
The creation of a public, searchable portal was mandated under a bill signed into law in 2025
The state Children, Youth and Families Department unveiled a new dashboard Wednesday that provides a more detailed picture of its child protective services work, including a list of near fatalities and fatalities.
The dashboard, which will update quarterly, can be found at .
鈥淭his dashboard represents a meaningful step forward in our responsibility to share information transparently with the public, while maintaining the privacy and dignity of the children and families we serve,鈥 said acting CYFD Secretary Valerie Sandoval.
The creation of a public, searchable dashboard was mandated under Senate Bill 42, signed into law in 2025. The dashboard includes nonidentifiable data on children in state custody, removals, adoptions and children who have been reunified with their parents or caregivers.
The numbers of near fatalities and fatalities represent children who were either in the custody of CYFD at the time or those who had been the subject of an open CYFD case involving abuse or neglect but were not in custody. The totals would include children who had a CYFD case or involvement with the agency within the last three years.
For instance, the dashboard lists the death of a 10-month-old boy in San Juan County on Feb. 8 and the near fatality of a 6-month-old in Otero County on March 15.
