APD officer indicted on charges of battery, false imprisonment
Officer was off-duty when he allegedly slammed a woman against a vehicle
A grand jury has indicted an sa国际传媒官网网页入口 police officer who is accused of forcibly removing a woman from her car after a traffic incident while off duty.
Shawn Ginn, 42, is charged with two counts of battery and one count each of false imprisonment, aggravated battery and failure to give information and render aid.
Ginn was indicted Thursday and has a hearing scheduled for July 2. It is not clear if he has an attorney.
Ginn, who was off duty and not in uniform, was riding in a vehicle near Paseo del Norte and Universe when a crash occurred, according to a Thursday news release from Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.
Ginn reportedly approached the driver of the other vehicle and removed her from the car, Bregman said. He then allegedly slammed her against the vehicle and forced her arm behind her back.
鈥淭he woman sustained bruising to her face and other injuries during the encounter,鈥 Bregman said.
Ginn told witnesses on scene that he believed the woman was drunk, though a later investigation showed that she was not impaired, Bregman said. Multiple witnesses recorded the incident.
He has since retired from the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Police Department, according to APD spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos.
Ginn worked as a patrol officer with the Rio Rancho Police Department from 2006 to 2018 before transferring to APD. He worked as a patrolman before becoming a detective in August 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile. The following year, Ginn was promoted to a professional standards detective.
