Bregman fumes over public posting of residential properties
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Haaland removed information following letter from rival
Gubernatorial candidate Sam Bregman on Friday accused his Democratic opponent, Deb Haaland, of putting his family at risk by posting information on her website about four houses the prosecutor owns in sa国际传媒官网网页入口, Angel Fire and Houston.
The Haaland campaign took down the information Friday after Bregman sent a stern letter to Haaland demanding that she remove the records and accusing her of "a profound failure of judgment" for posting them publicly.
Bregman said the property information put his family in danger from people upset about his actions as 2nd Judicial District Attorney.
Haaland's campaign spokeswoman, Hannah Menchhoff, said Friday that the campaign used information freely available on public websites to obtain the property information. She also said the information was posted on the campaign's website for less than 24 hours.
"None of this is private information," Menchhoff said. "We did not publish his address, and ultimately, there are ways to look this up."
Haaland's campaign provided a link to the Bernalillo County Clerk's public records website that is searchable by name that lists information such as deeds and real estate contracts. The site lists property ownership data such as subdivision, lot and block numbers but does not appear to list street addresses.
Haaland's website listed Bernalillo County Assessor's Office parcel ID numbers for Bregman's personal home in sa国际传媒官网网页入口 and a second sa国际传媒官网网页入口 property that Bregman said is the residence of his mother.
Also listed were the account numbers of a property Bregman owns in Angel Fire and a fourth property in Houston that Bregman said is the home of his daughter and two grandchildren. The campaign website also listed Zillow values for each property.
"Anger doesn't even begin to describe what Deb Haaland did in the name of politics," Bregman said Friday in a phone interview. "She put my family at risk 鈥 the safety and well-being of my family at risk by identifying houses that my 88-year-old mother lives in, my daughter and her husband live in, and my grandchildren."
Bregman said his office routinely receives threats from people his attorneys prosecute.
"I'm the district attorney," he said. "I put a lot of people away in prison. We deal with people who make threats all the time."
