Pair arrested in road rage shooting that killed bystander
BCSO says a man and woman detained in El Paso face charges
Deputies with the Bernalillo County Sheriff鈥檚 Office have arrested two people in connection with a weekend road rage shooting in Southwest sa国际传媒官网网页入口 that left a bystander dead.
Rory Horowitz, 29, is charged with an open count of murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of shooting from a motor vehicle in the death of 21-year-old Roberto Carlos Pineda Arriaza.
Ellyssa Salazar, 32, is charged with harboring or aiding a felon and tampering with evidence.
The two were arrested at a home in El Paso, Texas, and are in the process of being extradited to New Mexico, according to a Wednesday news release from BCSO spokesperson Jayme Gonzales.
It is unclear if either has an attorney.
Deputies were dispatched Saturday around 6:50 p.m. to the 1500 block of Airway SW, near Bridge and Sunset, after receiving a call that a man had been shot, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed in Metropolitan Court.
Deputies arrived and learned that Pineda Arriaza was at a friend鈥檚 house to show off a new motorcycle he recently bought when two vehicles allegedly engaged in a road rage incident drove by, the affidavit states.
鈥淭he victim caught a stray round to the head,鈥 according to the affidavit. 鈥淭he two vehicles involved in the road rage were described as a BMW and a Mitsubishi."
Pineda Arriaza was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries late Tuesday, Gonzales said.

Detectives used license plate data and learned that the Mitsubishi was registered to Salazar. Roughly one hour later, sa国际传媒官网网页入口 police located the BMW involved in the incident, the affidavit states.
Police attempted a traffic stop but the BMW fled, according to the affidavit. Officers later found the driver 鈥 identified as Antonio Tapia 鈥 and detained him on one count of aggravated fleeing from an officer and one count of reckless driving.
鈥淎t this time, investigators have not developed evidence showing that individual fired any rounds during the incident, and that person has not been charged in connection with the homicide or aggravated battery,鈥 Gonzales said.
Deputies spoke with Tapia, who said that he had nothing to do with the shooting but knew the Mitsubishi was Salazar鈥檚, the affidavit states. Tapia told deputies that Horowitz was driving the car at the time of the shooting.
Deputies spoke with Pineda Arriaza鈥檚 friend, who said that he watched Horowitz get out of the Mitsubishi and fire multiple rounds toward Tapia, according to the affidavit.
鈥淥ne of the first rounds fired struck his friend Roberto in the head,鈥 the affidavit states.
BCSO said the Mitsubishi Outlander, with a New Mexico license plate of NM-SHT803, has not been located. Anyone with information about the vehicle or related to the case is asked to reach out to BCSO by submitting an anonymous tip through Tip411.
