JOURNAL CENTENNIAL

The sa国际传媒官网网页入口 has long been a part of my life

Growing up in sa国际传媒官网网页入口 in the 1950s and 1960s, the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 was always on our kitchen table in the mornings. I took it for granted until the summer of 1966, when I was hired as a counselor at Boy Scout Camp Zia, near Cuba, New Mexico. I felt so isolated and out of touch until Robert Brown, the father of fellow counselor Scott Brown and a Journal editor, purchased a subscription for me that was delivered daily to our camp.

I bought my own subscription during my counselor term of 1967, and since then have always measured other daily newspapers against the Journal standard.

During the many times in my life when I lived away from New Mexico for military duty and career posting, I鈥檝e subscribed to other publications. Few had the sense of balance and readability that the Journal has. Even today, living in Colorado, I depend on the Journal e-version to inject my daily fix of local and international news. The only two publications that I currently subscribe to are the Journal and the New York Times.

I think back to the many times in my life that my name was published in the Journal: sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Boys Choir, high school wrestling at Manzano, meeting Gov. Dave Cargo for lunch in Santa Fe when I made Eagle Scout, Boy鈥檚 State Treasurer in 1968, commissioning in the Air Force out of the University of New Mexico ROTC, and a random photo running the foothills in an article about trails in 2010, and my parent鈥檚 memorials, to name just a few.

The Journal also published my many letters to the editor. Maybe they brought some balance of opinion to New Mexico, but nevertheless I was given the moment to express my personal view.

I can鈥檛 imagine anyone living an average life in New Mexico and not somehow being a part of the Journal story. It certainly was and always will be intertwined with my life. New Mexicans are lucky and blessed to have a publication that represents all New Mexicans and presents a true and arguably unbiased story about our lives.

Thank you, sa国际传媒官网网页入口, for being a part of mine.
