UNM's Dylan Hopkins named Mountain West offensive player of the week

New Mexico quarterback Dylan Hopkins was named the Mountain West鈥檚 offensive player of the week after throwing for 273 yards, four touchdowns and one interception on 13-for-17 passing in the Lobos鈥� 56-10 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday.
Hopkins is the first UNM quarterback to garner offensive POTW honors since Terry Wilson did so after passing for 381 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-25 win over New Mexico State on Sept. 11, 2021.

鈥淚 tell people all the time, out of all the seasons I鈥檝e played, this is the most excited I鈥檝e been for a season,鈥� Hopkins said following Saturday鈥檚 win. 鈥淏eing on that (10 game) losing streak definitely kind of sucks but getting that win felt good for the hometown, especially with the big game next week. We want everyone to show up to that game.鈥�
In only his second outing with the Lobos, Hopkins had as many touchdowns as incompletions over three quarters and tied for second all-time with former quarterbacks Jeremy Leach, Graham Leigh and Casey Kelly for most single-game passing touchdowns in UNM program history.
His 78-yard strike to wide receiver Duece Jones marked a career-long passing touchdown after making 25 career starts over the last four seasons with UAB before transferring to New Mexico in January. Hopkins' 277.2 passer rating against Tennessee Tech was also a career-best for games in which he made 10 or more passing attempts.
