Infra Pipes, which acquired the facility from Atkore Inc. in April, told the state that it will permanently close the facility this summer
Dozens of workers at an sa国际传媒官网网页入口 plastics plant will lose their jobs this summer, a move that comes just weeks after it was sold to a Canadian manufacturer.
sold its High-Density Polyethylene, or HDPE, pipe and conduit business to Infra Pipes in April, with sa国际传媒官网网页入口 one of five U.S. sites included in the transaction. A plant closure wasn鈥檛 mentioned as part of the deal.
But a filed with the state in late April shows Infra Pipes plans to close the plant, at 5301 Hawking SE, by the end of June and shed 51 workers. The notice requires companies to give 60 days鈥 notice before a plant closure or mass layoffs, according to the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions.
The 鈥渃losing and associated layoff of employees is currently expected to be permanent,鈥 Infra Pipes CEO Jimmy Herring said in a letter to the state dated April 27. Final closure of the plant will take place by the end of July.
The companies didn鈥檛 respond to a Journal request for comment.
The plant, the site of a 2023 fire that lasted approximately 22 hours, was among four other facilities touted by Infra Pipes in its April acquisition announcement. The other locations are in Springfield, Missouri; Lovelady, Texas; Woodburn, Oregon; and Allendale, South Carolina. Infra Pipes had also acquired another HDPE site in Jacksonville, Florida, in May 2025.
Atkore had been operating the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 plant since its 2022 acquisition of United Poly Systems, a manufacturer of HDPE pipe and conduit primarily serving telecom, water infrastructure and energy markets. United Poly Systems, which had roughly 160 employees across its sa国际传媒官网网页入口 and Springfield facilities at the time, was one of four companies Atkore acquired that year as part of a broader push to expand its product portfolio.
In the announcement, Herring called the latest acquisition a 鈥渟ignificant advancement of our strategy to make Infra Pipes the most modern, efficient and scalable producer of HDPE pipeline solutions in North America.鈥
鈥淲e are confident that the HDPE acquisition will strengthen our ability to serve customers and support infrastructure projects,鈥 Herring added. 鈥淭he five acquired locations have benefitted from significant recent investment, making them complementary to our existing locations. We are excited to continue building a stronger Infra Pipes.鈥
