Man wanted for robbery, violent crimes surrenders peacefully in Santa Fe during 'high-risk' police search
Police lift temporary closures along Airport, Jemez roads
SANTA FE 鈥 An emergency closure of sections of Airport and Jemez roads Tuesday afternoon ended with the arrest of a local man accused of robbery and violent crimes, according to a news release from Santa Fe Police Department.
Santa Fe resident Raymond Sean Lopez, 32, surrendered peacefully at police headquarters as officers sought his arrest on an active warrant for robbery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery, according to the release.
Santa Feans were on the city's southwest side, where police executed a high-risk search warrant in the 4900 block of Airport Road.
Police deployed special weapons and tactics operators, explosive ordnance disposal team technicians, K-9 handlers and drones to assist in the search, but the 32-year-old suspect could not be found in the area.
While the warrant was executed, Lopez phoned police, who instructed him to turn himself in at headquarters after the suspect allegedly refused to give his exact location. Lopez turned himself in around 3:30 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident.
"We appreciate the cooperation of Mr. Lopez and his family," police said in the release.
Court records show Lopez was charged in a prior felony case for breaking and entering in August 2022, but the case was dismissed by the 1st Judicial District Attorney's Office.
Police said the operation disrupted traffic on Airport Road between South Meadows and Calle Po Ai Pi, as well as along Jemez Road from Rufina Street south to the 3200 block of Jemez Road.
The road closures were lifted around 2:30 p.m.
