Food truck park takes shape at Winrock Town Center

The Campground opened earlier this month

A new spot for food trucks has rolled into the Duke City, turning a dormant portion of Winrock Town Center into a curated hub for cuisine and community.

Winrock owner and developer Goodman Realty Group launched food truck park The Campground earlier this month. Goodman has been workshopping the idea for about six months, hoping to create a curated food-truck experience and gathering spot for the community, local entrepreneurs and Winrock tenants.

鈥淲e will be engaging the community in a way that hopefully this becomes a part of their weekly routine,鈥 said Darin Sand, senior vice president of Goodman. 鈥淲e expect it to continue to grow and be successful.鈥

Choosing a name for the venture was no easy task, Sand said. The Goodman team landed on The Campground because of the warm memories of good food and company it represents.

The Campground is open daily, generally from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; it closes at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The venture is still very much in its early days, Sand said. Over time, Goodman plans to implement up to five vendors, outfit the space with comfortable seating, shade and a firepit, and programming such as acoustic music nights and campfire storytelling sessions.

鈥淲e are still ramping it up,鈥 Sand said.

The park has four vendors: Big Boss Hotlinks, El Catrin Mexican Kitchen, Ace鈥檚 Fry Guy and Latin Flavor.

Sand said the lineup is meant to be permanent, aside from the occasional newbie stepping in when these vendors have other events to be at.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not a drive-in and pop-in anytime thing,鈥 Sand said. 鈥淭hese trucks have been handpicked for the entrepreneurs that operate them and the food quality.鈥

The Campground is situated on the southeast corner of Winrock Park, across from the Regal movie theater near the Winrock Park pond.

鈥淚t鈥檚 super pleasant,鈥 Sand said. 鈥淭here鈥檚 nothing else like it in sa国际传媒官网网页入口, and these trucks add a whole other dimension to our park.鈥

The site was formerly an empty pad fenced off for a future restaurant. The site is still designated for a restaurant, Sand noted, but Goodman has not yet secured a tenant, so they decided to use the space to expand the park in the meantime.

If Goodman finds a tenant, Sand said, The Campground will move to another Winrock spot.

Sand said The Campground could serve as an incubator for vendors to potentially be a part of Winrock鈥檚 future food hall, which will go on the north side of the park.

Design is underway for the food hall 鈥 slated to have up to 18 vendor spots, Sand said. The opening of the food hall is about 18 months to two years out, he added.

Events will play a central role in the food hall venture, all in an effort to make Winrock more than just a place to eat.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a whole entire community that we鈥檙e building,鈥 Sand said.
