While most students were off school Monday, an sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Sign Language Academy group was working hard, raking leaves and cleaning Lorraine Cordova鈥檚 backyard. This event is part of an annual school tradition, where students participate in a community service activity in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Monday鈥檚 event provided students involved in the school鈥檚 Community Beautification Program with an opportunity to learn key life and career skills related to landscaping.
鈥淲e are trying to teach them that we can make the community a better place to live,鈥� said Charlotte Alderete-Trujillo, the high school and transition coordinator at the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Sign Language Academy. 鈥�(The students) also benefit by feeling proud about what they鈥檙e doing and it helps them have more self-confidence.鈥�
