鈥Are you tired of hearing that sa国际传媒官网网页入口 is the worst? Then you鈥檙e gonna love this show!鈥
At least according to Terri Klein, playwright behind 鈥淎 Year in Quirky Town,鈥 a play based on sa国际传媒官网网页入口, coming to The Adobe Theater starting Saturday, July 5, through Sunday, July 13.
鈥淗er car breaks down here in sa国际传媒官网网页入口, and she gets stuck here for a full calendar year, and she gets to experience life as a Burque帽o for a full year, just fully immersed in it,鈥 Cameron Illidge-Welch, show director, said. 鈥淎nd at the end of the play, we figure out if it is for her, or if she goes back to from whence she came.鈥
The play is inspired by the people in Klein鈥檚 life, including her son, who not only inspired her to write the play but also helped come up with its name.
鈥淗e said, 鈥榊ou know, there鈥檚 some people who call this AlbuQUIRKY, or quirky town, because there鈥檚 a lot of very different kinds of people here.鈥 I love that about sa国际传媒官网网页入口 鈥︹ Klein said. 鈥淭he whole of sa国际传媒官网网页入口 is very accepting of lots of different kinds of people, and that鈥檚 not true of a lot of places.鈥
Klein and Illidge-Welch are not native to sa国际传媒官网网页入口, but they have both lived here for the last decade and have found the surrounding community welcoming from the start.
鈥淚t鈥檚 so funny, because I have felt like such a local ever since the day that I got here,鈥 Illidge-Welch said. 鈥淓verybody has made me feel like I鈥檓 part of this big, wacky family that resides here in sa国际传媒官网网页入口.鈥
Illidge-Welch and Klein have found that the show has been a amalgamation of thoughts and creative changes by the cast and crew.
鈥淣ot every line in the show is authored by me, OK, but I like that. I like theater. It鈥檚 very collaborative,鈥 Klein said. 鈥淚 always learn stuff, and stuff goes into the shows that I don鈥檛 have the background for (or) I didn鈥檛 have the idea for, but it works.鈥
This is Illidge-Welch鈥檚 second time directing a show at The Adobe Theater and he has found a connection to the show through group collaboration and creation.
鈥淎s with every project, I have cried, I have laughed, I have felt incredible highs, and I have felt those horrible, horrible lows, but in the end, it all comes back to the fact that I am able to create with these people,鈥 Illidge-Welch said.
