Raucous sa国际传媒官网网页入口 rock band Prism B!tch is kicking off a 2025 nationwide tour with an all-ages matinee show at the Launchpad on Saturday, March 22, at 12:30 p.m.
While the band promises to deliver the same rowdy, high-octane, stage-diving performances fans expect, they say they鈥檙e also looking forward to playing a matinee show.
鈥淲e can rock out, then have dinner, then go to bed,鈥 said Lauren Poole (bass, vocals). 鈥淚t鈥檚 great!鈥
鈥淎nd when we say 鈥榓ll ages,鈥 it鈥檚 not just that we鈥檙e letting people under 21 in. We鈥檙e also trying to make something available to folks who are older, too,鈥 Poole said.
鈥淲e have the power to create spaces where everyone can feel welcome,鈥 said Lilah Rose (keys, guitar, vocals).
鈥淲e wanna get away from this idea that music has to be done in the dark and late at night,鈥 said Chris Walsh (guitar). 鈥淥r even in a bar. It doesn鈥檛 have to be tied to alcohol.鈥
The band said they often start their shows with a tequila toast, but they drink a lot less than they used to. They have all given up smoking, too.
鈥淭he more you tour, the more realize you have to take care of yourself and pace yourself. You wanna have fun, but you also have a job to do,鈥 said Teresa Cruces (drums, vocals). 鈥淭here鈥檚 times after we鈥檝e played six nights in a row where our 鈥榩arty鈥 is just, let鈥檚 watch 鈥楽teel Magnolias.鈥欌
鈥淚 am learning in my older age that the more mellow nights we have are really, really special,鈥 Rose said, 鈥渂ecause I can remember them.鈥
Prism B!tch has been together for 9 years. The band evolved out of an experimental theater project Poole and Walsh were working on about women in prison.
鈥淲e had the idea to be called Prison B!tch before 鈥極range Is the New Black鈥 came out,鈥 Poole said. 鈥淪o, that was just in the zeitgeist.鈥
鈥淚t was misheard by Lauren鈥檚 family member as Prism B!tch, and then we all went, oh, that鈥檚 better,鈥 Cruces said. 鈥淧iss and vinegar and rainbows. That seemed to be more of our aesthetic.鈥
鈥淩ainbows and rage,鈥 Rose added.
Prism B!tch鈥檚 first public performance was at a punk rock open mic night at Winning Coffee. They showed up with two partially written songs and ended up denting the coffee shop鈥檚 communal drum set.
鈥淲inning closed down, probably because they couldn鈥檛 afford to buy another drum set,鈥 Cruces joked.
Over the years, Prism B!tch has had their share of hairy adventures on the road, from crashing rental vans to booking hotels that turned out not to be hotels.
鈥淥ne time in Tacoma, we showed up, and the hotel had been taken over and become a squat. There was active sex work and drug deals happening, and we were like, 鈥榃here鈥檚 the lobby?鈥欌 Poole said. 鈥淚t was a learning experience, because now I never book a hotel without reading the reviews.鈥
Another time, they got into an argument with an overly enthusiastic fog machine operator at an art space they were playing in Denver.
鈥淗e just kept the haze going and going and wouldn鈥檛 turn it off. He was like, 鈥業t鈥檚 my art,鈥欌 Cruces said. 鈥淲e all got bronchitis.鈥
Yet the band maintains a positive attitude.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 think there鈥檚 ever been a situation where I would not have wanted to do a show,鈥 Cruces said. 鈥淲e played a show in Salt Lake where we just played for the opening band and two bartenders, but I remember the pizza being really fun, and then getting a nice, sweet Airbnb.鈥
The rest of the band agreed.
鈥淧art of the beauty of touring is just, like, 鈥榃hat鈥檚 gonna happen tonight?鈥欌 Cruces said.
The band stressed the importance of community.
鈥淲e鈥檙e all about love and community and holding space for each other,鈥 Rose said.
鈥渟a国际传媒官网网页入口 is very much in our DNA, but so is road life,鈥 Cruces said. 鈥淪o, we just hope to bring some version of home with us wherever we go.鈥
