Drive thru metal: Mac Sabbath brings its 10-year anniversary tour to Meow Wolf
Mac Sabbath brings its 10-year anniversary tour to Meow Wolf in Santa Fe on Saturday, Aug. 17.
For a decade, Mac Sabbath has been frying up the antics for its live parody metal shows.
Ronald Osbourne on vocals, Slayer MacCheeze on guitar, Grimalice on bass and the Catburglar on drums bring their 鈥渄inner rock revolution鈥 to Meow Wolf, 1352 Rufina Circle, in Santa Fe, on Saturday, Aug. 17.
Mike Odd, the band鈥檚 manager, who speaks on the band鈥檚 behalf, did not want to give too much away when it comes to Mac Sabbath鈥檚 performances.
鈥淚鈥檓 very anti-movie trailer,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 think the whole idea of storytelling is getting destroyed with spoilers. I think that it should unfold in front of you. It鈥檚 just an incredible theatrical, almost Broadway play style experience, that unfolds in front of you. There鈥檚 nothing really like it.鈥
Odd described the band鈥檚 live show as a big production on a smaller scale.
鈥淵ou could compare it to some bands that are arena rock bands that have a big, theatrical performance and visuals to watch,鈥 he explained. 鈥淏ut it鈥檚 squashed down on a club-sized stage. The audience, being involved with something like that, at that close range, and having them interact with you the way that they do is kind of unheard of on this level.鈥
Odd shared some of the antics that take place on stage.
鈥(Ron Osbourne鈥檚) got a grill on stage and he鈥檚 flipping burgers while he鈥檚 singing and it鈥檚 really hard to explain what happens with all these characters and all the cool things that happen,鈥 Odd explained.
Mac Sabbath is full of surprises and each live show is an experience that has to be seen to be believed with songs like 鈥淕rilled by Death,鈥 鈥淪weet Beef鈥 and 鈥淪upersize.鈥
鈥淧eople think that they know what it is by looking at (Mac Sabbath) on the internet,鈥 Odd said. 鈥淓very single time that I go do a show with these guys, whether it be fans or promoters or club owners, whoever it is that saw it for the first time, they always say, 鈥楾hat was not what I was expecting. I had no idea that it was like this.鈥 They are all just bowled over at how different it was than they thought that it would be.鈥
Odd said Meow Wolf is the ideal place for a Mac Sabbath show. The band has played the Santa Fe location one time prior.
鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 think of a better venue for Mac Sabbath,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e did it once before and it was just absolutely amazing. Talk about an immersive sort of theatrical experience. Mac Sabbath at Meow Wolf is like nothing that anybody could ever experience.鈥
