Emmy-nominated entertainer Amy Sedaris coming to Santa Fe, sa国际传媒官网网页入口
It鈥檚 a Friday afternoon in New York City.
Amy Sedaris is taking some time to do some press for her upcoming 鈥淎 Conversation with Amy Sedaris鈥� performances, which will make a stop in Santa Fe and sa国际传媒官网网页入口 on Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31, respectively.
鈥淚鈥檝e been busy today,鈥� she says. 鈥淏ut I鈥檓 happy because I have the afternoon to myself. It鈥檚 a moment to reflect.鈥�
The multi-hyphenate entertainer enjoys the time in her apartment. It鈥檚 where she can deep dive into anything she wants to.
Lately, she鈥檚 taken to Instagram to give some warmth to not only her fans, but the world.
鈥淚鈥檓 trying to post happier things,鈥� she says. 鈥淭he way the world and news cycles are, we need to keep the good at the forefront. We鈥檙e all creatives and we need to have those outlets to keep ourselves happy.鈥�
For decades, Sedaris has showcased her sharp observations and absurdity through various productions on and off stage. She鈥檚 a prolific actress, author, comedian 鈥� and, yes, rabbit educator.
She鈥檚 most known for her roles in 鈥淪trangers with Candy,鈥� 鈥淓lf,鈥� 鈥淏oJack Horseman,鈥� 鈥淭he Mandalorian,鈥� and her Emmy-nominated comedy series, 鈥淎t Home with Amy Sedaris.鈥�
For the Santa Fe and sa国际传媒官网网页入口 shows, Caity Weaver will be hosting the conversation with Sedaris. There will be roughly 50 to 60 minutes of conversation and then an audience Q&A. Weaver is a writer for The Atlantic.
鈥淲hat I like about doing the 鈥榗onversation鈥� shows is that I don鈥檛 have to do anything but show up,鈥� Sedaris says. 鈥淚 feel like these shows are everyone鈥檚 show. It鈥檚 energetic because I get to meet my fans. It鈥檚 also amazing to see how my different projects attract an audience. Each project has its own set of fans.鈥�
Sedaris remembered being cast in 鈥淪ex and the City鈥� for a short story arc during the series鈥� six-year run.
鈥淥h my god,鈥� she says. 鈥淚 took the longest in makeup for that role. It took that long for me to look that presentable.鈥�
Sedaris recently worked on two projects 鈥� 鈥淚s This Thing On?鈥� with Bradley Cooper and 鈥淥ffice Romance鈥� with Jennifer Lopez.
鈥淲ith Bradley Cooper, I kind of play an extra and I loved it,鈥� she says. 鈥淲orking on the Jennifer Lopez movie, it鈥檚 a fun part and I worked on it for about five days. I really enjoy the projects I get to walk on set, get a laugh and leave. I like to be the guest. I grew up watching 鈥楤ewitched鈥� and seeing all of the guest stars was really fun.鈥�
While being on set is a thrill for Sedaris, her favorite is still live theater.
鈥淵ou鈥檙e out there on stage, in the moment, and you get one chance,鈥� she explains. 鈥淚 never feel comfortable calling myself an actress. I like to play and what I enjoy is bringing to life characters. Even when I鈥檓 selling my lighters. I sell lighters on the side and it鈥檚 a transaction.鈥�
After years of performance, Sedaris admits to feeling eager before heading on stage.
She recalls the last time she got nervous.
鈥淚 was presenting an award to Paul Giamatti (at the 2024 National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York),鈥� she says. 鈥淒avid (Sedaris) wrote the speech for me. I had two more sentences left and I felt like I was having a panic attack. It was awful.鈥�
After Sedaris presented the award, she lost her balance and stumbled 鈥� yet played it off.
Over the years, Sedaris has learned many lessons through triumph and failure.
Though these days, she takes a stand at protecting her energy.
鈥淧eople are taxing and I have to remember to not give my energy away,鈥� she says. 鈥淚 learned this during the pandemic. I bother people more than they bother me. I鈥檇 rather be at home coloring. That time is really important to me. I enjoy my time at home, but I also leave my home every day.鈥�
Sedaris says she and Paul Dinello co-created 鈥淎t Home with Amy Sedaris鈥� because of her love for crafting.
The series featured skills ranging from creating Popsicle stick buddies and making raisin necklaces to entertaining businessmen and gutting a fish.
Episodes revolved around a theme such as entertaining, grieving, the craft of love making and cooking.
The series has featured a cavalcade of guest stars, including Paul Rudd, Rachel Dratch, Jane Krakowski, David Pasquesi, Stephen Colbert, Michael Cera and Justin Theroux.
鈥淚 love crafting and coloring in my coloring book,鈥� she says. 鈥淚 had this idea that I would put a dollhouse inside my fireplace inside one of my apartments. I鈥檓 always looking for people to help me bring these ideas to fruition. I have a lot of ideas, and my problem is that I can think about them forever. It鈥檚 finding the people to help out. I try to surround myself with people that are doers.鈥�
