NM Philharmonic announces 2024-25 classic season
The New Mexico Philharmonic鈥檚 2024-25 classic season stars pianist Olga Kern, a concert version of Giacomo Puccini鈥檚 鈥淭osca,鈥 the violinist Midori, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and more.
The concerts will take place at Popejoy Hall, 203 Cornell Dr. NE.
Kern will launch the season with a performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff鈥檚 Piano Concerto No. 3 on Oct. 12. The orchestra will follow the concerto with Anton Bruckner鈥檚 Symphony No. 4.
NM Philharmonic announces 2024-25 classic season
The philharmonic will present 鈥淭osca in Concert鈥 on Nov. 16, commemorating 100 years since Puccini鈥檚 death. Soprano Carmen Giannattasio will sing the role of Tosca and Brazilian baritone Leonardo Neiva will play Scarpia.
鈥淢ozart & Salieri鈥 will jumpstart the new year on Jan. 18, 2025, in a concert featuring both voice and orchestra. The musicians will perform the overture to 鈥淒on Giovanni,鈥 the one-act opera 鈥淢ozart and Salieri鈥 by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Mozart鈥檚 鈥淩equiem.鈥 The soloists will include soprano Amy Owens, mezzo-soprano Olga Perez Flora, tenor James Flora and baritone Carlos Archuleta.
On Feb. 1, 2025, famed violinist Midori will perform Felix Mendelssohn鈥檚 Violin Concerto. Afterward, the orchestra will play Dmitri Shostakovich鈥檚 Symphony No. 5.
On March 1, 2025, the musicians will perform Samuel Barber鈥檚 Adagio. Pianist Michelle Cann will play Ludwig van Beethoven鈥檚 Piano Concerto No. 4. Two of Aaron Copland鈥檚 masterworks, his 鈥淪uite from Billy the Kid鈥 and 鈥淓l Sal贸n M茅xico,鈥 round out the show.
On April 12, 2025, the music turns romantic with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Violin Concerto. Brazilian violinist Guido Sant鈥橝nna will helm the violin, followed by the orchestra鈥檚 performance of Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Symphony No.6, 鈥淧ath茅tique.鈥
On April 19, 2025, the philharmonic will pair with the New Mexico Ballet Company on 鈥淭he Great Gatsby Ballet,鈥 based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic. The performance will feature characters like the villainous Tom, the naive Nick, love interest Daisy and the dreamer Gatsby.
The classics series will end on May 31, 2025, with the Mahler Symphony Cycle. Gustav Mahler鈥檚 Symphony No. 3 in d minor will set the stage for the finale with a 200-plus member performing arts ensemble. The performance will feature mezzo-soprano Lilia Istratii. Music director Roberto Minczuk conducts.
