A man was arrested after allegedly fatally striking a bicyclist with his vehicle in Northeast sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Saturday morning.

Brent Curley, 47, of sa国际传媒官网网页入口 is charged with vehicular homicide (driving while intoxicated), resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, open container, failure to maintain traffic lane, unsafe passing and failure to yield right of way.

Curley is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center. His attorney could not be reached for comment.

On June 15, Curley pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated (fourth offense), speeding, failure to maintain lane, impeding traffic and open container charges that stemmed from a February incident, according to court records.

At about 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, the sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Police Department responded to a call of a crash with injury at Central and Maple NE, near University.

When officers arrived, they learned that a man 鈥 later identified as Curley 鈥 struck bicyclist Maykel Garcia, 45, with his vehicle, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.

Garcia was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

Witnesses told police Curley was on Sycamore turning east onto Central when he veered over an sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Rapid Transit bus lane, cut in between two bicyclists and ran Garcia over, the complaint states. The witnesses also told police they heard Curley rev his engine before hitting Garcia, police said.

As officers attempted to help Garcia, according to the complaint, Gurley walked away, but was soon arrested.

Garcia, whose speech was 鈥渢hick and slurred,鈥 admitted to using medical cannabis before driving, the complaint states. While he denied drinking, police later found a beer can inside his vehicle.

鈥淏rent鈥檚 behavior was paradoxical,鈥 police said. 鈥淎t times (he) was remorseful and in other instances (he) minimized the situation.鈥

BikeABQ put up a post about the incident on its Instagram page.

In part, it says: 鈥淲hile the investigation continues, this tragedy comes amid growing concerns about increasingly aggressive and dangerous behavior on our streets. Too many people walking, biking, and rolling are paying the price for speeding, impairment and reckless driving.

鈥淥ur thoughts are with Maykel鈥檚 family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.鈥
