Fire at Hotel Santa Fe sends 8 to hospital
An electrical fire broke out early Thursday in the kitchen of Hotel Santa Fe, filling the building with smoke and prompting the evacuation and hospital treatment of six officers and two guests
SANTA FE 鈥 Multiple people were treated at a hospital after a fire broke out at Hotel Santa Fe on Thursday morning.
Fire crews responded to a reported fire at the hotel shortly after 5 a.m., according to the City of Santa Fe. Firefighters found an electrical box on fire in the kitchen area and quickly extinguished the blaze.
Preliminary findings indicate the fire spread through an interior wall, generating heavy smoke throughout the hotel, the city said. The hotel was evacuated.
During the evacuation, six police officers were treated at a hospital for smoke exposure, according to the city. Two hotel guests also were treated for symptoms of smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
