‘Grand but cozy’ home with one of Silver City’s top price tags hits the market
The 10-acre property is available for nearly $2.4 million
Stepping into 3120 Little Walnut Road in Silver City feels like entering a countryside estate miles beyond city limits, said owner Angela Brightwell. But the home is only two miles from the community’s center.
The juxtapositions don’t stop there.
“It feels really grand but cozy,” Brightwell said.
Brightwell, originally from Arkansas, purchased the 5,620-square-foot home four years ago after a trip to Silver City inspired a move to the area. She said the city’s natural beauty and the people living there were part of the draw.
But for personal, family-related reasons, Brightwell is now looking to sell the home, which comes with four bedrooms, seven bathrooms and sits on a little over 10 acres.
With the help of Sotheby’s International Realty Associate Broker KC Martin, Brightwell for nearly $2.4 million last month — making it one of the most expensive residences on the market in Silver City, according to Martin.
“It’s the nicest property in the whole town,” Martin said. “It is pristine, it’s turnkey. There’s a European decadence to it that incorporates that resort feeling.”
Some of the property’s resort-esque features include an indoor pool house with an infrared sauna, a dedicated salt cabin, a cantina-style bar and entertainment space, a flexible space that can serve as a workshop or gym, a private putting green, an RV garage, four fireplaces and stone pillars galore.
Brightwell said she and her partner, a metalsmith, added the salt room and bar, which they call “the cowboy bar.”
Brightwell is the home’s second owner. The property was constructed by Silver City builder Nick Chavez Jr., who Brightwell said built the home for his father, Nick Chavez Sr. The story, as Brightwell knows it, is that the junior Chavez wanted to take over their construction business and the senior Chavez told his son he could have the business if he built him a house.
“He might have said, ‘If you build me a castle.’ I’ve heard two different stories; some people say castle,” Brightwell said.
The property served as the Chavez family home up until Nick Chavez Sr.’s death a few years ago. With all his kids and grandkids grown up, the family decided to let go of the property.
Some features of the property that Brightwell said she enjoyed during her time at 3120 Little Walnut Road were the 20-foot-high ceilings, chef’s kitchen and expansive indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. The property is surrounded by the Gila National Forest, offering proximity to miles of trails and natural hot springs.
“In a world that rarely slows, this is where you arrive, exhale and live with quiet distinction in perfection,” the property listing says.
Brightwell agreed, saying she approaches her turn to let go of the luxury property with nothing but fond feelings and memories.
“I just feel like every day, I’m living in a very special place, and it’s very healing and grounding and comforting,” Brightwell said.
