Fred M. Mossman is remembered as a hardworking businessman who 鈥渁lways took care of the customers.鈥

Fred M. Mossman was 92.

Mossman-Gladden 鈥 a company founded by his father Fred A. Mossman that he later owned 鈥 built many properties in the city and across the state, including the Immanuel Presbyterian Church and homes in Northeast sa国际传媒官网网页入口.

鈥淚 think sa国际传媒官网网页入口 should be thankful for Fred Mossman and for his family,鈥 Mossman鈥檚 friend Douglas Peterson said. 鈥淭hey built, I would imagine, thousands of homes.  I, like a lot of sa国际传媒官网网页入口ans, used to live in a Mossman home. It鈥檚 a legendary brand. It means quality. It means integrity. And that鈥檚 the way they did everything.鈥

Fred M. Mossman was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Valentine, Nebraska. He spent his early years on a family homestead along the Niobrara River, near Valentine, where he 鈥渓earned the value of hard work,鈥 .

After his mother got tuberculosis, Mossman, then 5, moved with his family to New Mexico.

鈥淗is only real job, from the time he could walk, was helping his grandfather do all sorts of different things in construction,鈥 Andrew Mossman said. 鈥淎nd I mean some unusual things. When he was in grade school, he actually ran wires in conduits at the base at Kirtland when my grandfather was working on construction projects there.

鈥淔rom that time on, he was an able-bodied helper for my grandfather in all different types of construction-related labor on job sites from framing to concrete to roofing to insulation.鈥

After his mother died, Mossman鈥檚 father, Fred A. Mossman, went into home construction, a field that Fred M. Mossman would get involved in.

鈥淢y father was a very dedicated hard worker,鈥 Andrew Mossman said. 鈥淗e typically worked six or seven days a week in the early years and I think that was because he was willing to do whatever was necessary, from physical labor to management.鈥

After graduating from the University of New Mexico with a business degree, Fred M. Mossman became vice president of Mossman-Gladden where he oversaw the construction of thousands of homes 鈥渨ith a large workforce of skilled craftsmen,鈥 the obituary states.

鈥淭he company was growing and so quickly it needed to have leadership that was very reliable and my grandfather couldn鈥檛 just do it on his own,鈥 Andrew Mossman said. 鈥淗e could rely on my father and my uncle Ed Gladden to really manage the business and the three of them, along with their wives, were really able to direct the company toward the growth that it was able to achieve.鈥

Lee-Sure Pools Owner Lee Poper said Fred M. Mossman 鈥渁lways took care of his customers.鈥

鈥淚t could be two or three years later and somebody would have a big problem with their pool,鈥 Poper said. 鈥淣o matter what it cost, he would go in there and fix it. He was very good about that.鈥

Andrew Mossman said regardless of the situation, he seldom saw his father lose his temper.

鈥淭hat was a reflection of his trust of the Almighty, his faith in Jesus Christ and I鈥檓 sure he prayed on many occasions to give him guidance,鈥 he said.

When Fred M. Mossman wasn鈥檛 working he enjoyed fishing, hunting and photography, the obituary states.

鈥淗e liked to get outdoors, away from problems and just experience the beauty of New Mexico,鈥 Andrew Mossman said.

Fred M. Mossman is survived by his sons Andrew Mossman, Clark Mossman, Matthew Mossman and Grant Mossman and daughter Sarah Mossman Wolfe.
