Police have arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing another man at apartment complex in Southeast sa国际传媒官网网页入口.
Colin Bilagody, 23, is charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence in the death of 23-year-old Tyren Begay. He was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on Wednesday.
鈥淪tabbing your friend during a fight is extremely violent and dangerous behavior that shows no concern for the health and safety of the victim,鈥 states a pretrial detention motion filed by prosecutors.
Officers were dispatched to the Manzano Mesa apartments near Southern and Eubank SE around 3 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a call that a man 鈥 later identified as Begay 鈥攈ad been stabbed after an argument, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.
When officers arrived, they found Begay had been stabbed and saw a bloody knife on the sidewalk near the door of the apartment, according to the complaint.
Officers spoke with a woman, who said she had been drinking with her boyfriend 鈥 Begay 鈥 and their friend, later identified as Bilagody, when the two men began to argue, the complaint states.
鈥淪he said the two men started fighting when they got to her apartment and she attempted to break up the fight,鈥 said sa国际传媒官网网页入口 Police Department spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos in a Tuesday news release.
The woman told police the two argued for some time when she saw Bilagody stab her boyfriend in the torso, according to the complaint. She told police she ran from the apartment and began knocking on neighboring units for help.
Officers obtained surveillance footage from inside the apartment and saw a video of the two men fighting around 2 a.m., the complaint states.
Police saw footage of Begay shoving Bilagody to the ground before kicking him in the face. Bilagody reportedly told Begay to 鈥渃hill out, bro, thought we were homies,鈥 according to the complaint.
In the video, Begay鈥檚 girlfriend could be heard screaming, 鈥淒id you stab him?" the complaint states. Bilagody is then seen walking out of the apartment with a knife in his hand.
Hours later Bilagody turned himself in to police and said the two began arguing after he made a joke about Begay鈥檚 shirt, according to the complaint. He told officers Begay punched him multiple times and Bilagody grabbed a knife to 鈥渟care鈥 his friend.
鈥淏ilagody said even after he armed himself with the knife, Begay pushed him down and Bilagody struck his head on the ground," Gallegos said.
Bilagody told police he 鈥渁ccidentally stabbed鈥 Begay in the chest once and said that he 鈥渂lacked out in that moment,鈥 the complaint states. He told officers he took a Lyft home and changed his clothes before turning himself in.
鈥淏ilagody told detectives he should have walked away from the fight, but he stabbed Begay by accident,鈥 Gallegos said.
