Small plane crash-lands near Ojo Santa Fe Spa Resort
Man and woman safely exit aircraft after deploying vehicle parachute; one sent to hospital with minor injuries
SANTA FE 鈥 Santa Fe County officials said a small plane crash-landed outside Santa Fe Ojo Spa Resort on Friday morning, clipping a building and sending one of two occupants to the hospital with minor injuries.
Mathew Romero, who works for Summit Fire Security, was performing maintenance on a sprinkler head at the resort when what he described as a small, single-prop plane came flying in low.
A black airframe parachute came out of the white aircraft鈥檚 tail, he said, allowing the plane to slow its crash-landing near some trees by a parking lot.
He said both occupants of the plane, a man and a woman, safely exited and appeared uninjured.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff鈥檚 Office and Fire Department responded to the scene at 9:54 a.m. First responders determined that the deployment of the plane鈥檚 parachute 鈥渁llowed it to reach the ground without extreme consequences,鈥 according to County Communications Manager Shawna Graves.
Graves said the crash did not disrupt operations at Santa Fe Regional Airport.
New Mexico State Police Public Information Officer Amanda Richards said State Police also responded to the crash. She said the plane clipped the side of a building upon landing.
