Report: Diego Pavia signs with Baltimore Ravens as undrafted free agent
Former Vanderbilt, NMSU QB set to attend club's rookie minicamp this weekend
Diego Pavia is set to join an NFL roster a few days after not being selected in the NFL draft.
The sa国际传媒官网网页入口 native, record-setting Vanderbilt quarterback and Heisman Trophy runner-up has signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent, per multiple reports.
Pavia鈥檚 signing comes after he accepted an invitation to the Ravens rookie minicamp Sunday. Now part of Baltimore鈥檚 90-man roster, he joins Connecticut's Joe Fangano as the by the club as undrafted free agents.
The Ravens signed both quarterbacks to ensure they would be on entering this week鈥檚 rookie minicamp, ESPN reported. The three-day minicamp 鈥 effectively an orientation and evaluation of draft picks, undrafted free agents and non-roster tryouts 鈥 begins Friday.
Baltimore already has two quarterbacks on its 90-man offseason roster 鈥 two-time MVP Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley. After third-stringer Cooper Rush was released in March, Pavia and Fangano are on the depth chart throughout minicamp and into the summer.
Neither are guaranteed to make the Ravens鈥 in-season 53-man roster. All undrafted free-agent contracts are three-year deals with signing bonuses and possibly minimal guaranteed money, making it easier for clubs to get out of them. Some teams have in recent years, however, leading to bidding wars between organizations for high-profile undrafted free agents.
If the Ravens don鈥檛 work out, Pavia will have at least one option north of the border. The Canadian Football League鈥檚 Winnipeg Blue Bombers added him to their in 2024, meaning the club will have exclusive rights to negotiate with him if he wishes to pursue an opportunity in the league.
ESPN was the first to report Pavia鈥檚 signing with the Ravens.
In two seasons at Vanderbilt, Pavia accounted for 9,156 yards of total offense and 67 touchdowns as the Commodores compiled a historic 17-9 record. He earned All-SEC honors last year and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting to Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the best placement of any New Mexico native in the award鈥檚 history.
Before that, Pavia spent two years at New Mexico State, leading the Aggies to back-to-back bowl appearances and a 10-5 season in 2023. He started his career at New Mexico Military Institute, where he won a junior college national title in 2021.
Pavia graduated from Volcano Vista High School, where he was a star wrestler and football player. He attended St. Pius X before that.
