LANL employment increased in FY2024, according to report
Los Alamos National Laboratory in December 2017. LANL released its fiscal year 2024 report this month. The report shows more than $1 billion in spending with New Mexico businesses.

Los Alamos National Laboratory spent more than $1 billion on procurement in New Mexico in fiscal year 2024 and had a budget of $5.2 billion.
That鈥檚 according to LANL鈥檚 latest covering the previous fiscal year, which ended in September.
The lab employed 16,547 workers who earned $1.96 billion total in salaries in FY2024, with salary distribution spread throughout New Mexico, according to the annual report.
Most workers鈥� money stayed in Los Alamos County, accounting for $794 million of the nearly $2 billion in salaries. Santa Fe County workers accounted for close to $504 million in wages, according to the report. Rio Arriba County workers earned $215 million and Bernalillo County workers totaled $124 million in salaries, the report shows.
The number of lab workers also increased by more than 600 from the prior fiscal year鈥檚 15,932 employees 鈥� a record at the time.
The total number of workers in FY2024 doesn鈥檛 account for the 1,378 contractors employed at LANL last year, according to the report.
鈥淓ach year, we grow as required by the demands of our national security mission and, in turn, the local economy grows with us,鈥� LANL Director Thom Mason said in a statement.
LANL said of the $1.05 billion it spent in procurement with New Mexico companies, $636 million went to local small businesses. The lab also partnered with 212 businesses in the state on 182 projects and attracted $14.1 million in new financing.
LANL鈥檚 economic impact report follows that of Sandia National Laboratories, located in sa国际传媒官网网页入口. Sandia鈥檚 report noted record-breaking $5.2 billion spending in FY2024. Sandia over that period employed roughly 17,000 workers, about 13,300 of which are in New Mexico.
