The steaks are high! The Big Texan Steak Ranch and Brewery is bringing its 72-ounce steak challenge to New Mexico
Everything鈥檚 bigger in New Mexico, at least for a short while.
The Big Texan Steak Ranch and Brewery in Amarillo, Texas, is bringing its world-famous 72-ounce Steak Challenge to Route 66, including four stops in New Mexico.
The challenge features a lineup of a 4.5-pound steak paired with a baked potato, three shrimp, a side salad and a roll. To win the challenge, participants must consume everything within an hour.
Participants who don鈥檛 finish in an hour or have a 鈥渞eversal of fortune鈥 are charged $72. Those who succeed get bragging rights and a free meal.
鈥淲e鈥檙e bringing the legend to the road that made America mobile,鈥 Bobby Lee, co-owner of the Big Texan Steak Ranch, said in a press release.
The challenge is traveling with the which is making stops along the Mother Road this summer in honor of the highway鈥檚 100th anniversary.
The current dates and stops in New Mexico (subject to change):
Thursday, June 11: Gallup, McKinley County Courthouse.

Saturday, June 13: Santa Fe, Palace of the Governors.
Sunday, June 14: Santa Rosa, Blue Hole Conference Center.
Hopeful participants can enter the challenge by making a post on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok explaining why they are the perfect candidate. Tag @thebigtexan and include your city as a hashtag for consideration.
鈥淭his is more than just a food challenge 鈥 it鈥檚 a celebration of Americana, tradition and the spirit of Route 66,鈥 Lee said.
