Smith's offers free ice cream for the summer solstice
The grocery store company is giving away 100,000 pints
As the longest day of the year approaches, Smith鈥檚 Food and Drug and its parent company, The Kroger Co., plan to give away 100,000 pints of free ice cream, celebrating the summer solstice and America鈥檚 250th anniversary.
Starting Friday morning, June 19, Kroger will launch the giveaway at hundreds of affiliated stores across the country, including 23 Smith鈥檚 locations in New Mexico.
To claim their free pint, customers have to download a coupon from . The coupon will launch 10 a.m. MST. The coupon is redeemable until Friday, July 3.
鈥淲e鈥檝e loved seeing customers come back year after year for their free pints, and now we鈥檙e going bigger than ever by giving away 100,000 pints,鈥� said Ann Reed, group vice president of Kroger鈥檚 brands, in a company news release.
This year marks the third year of Kroger鈥檚 summer solstice ice cream promotion. The company gave away 45,000 pints in 2024 and 92,000 in 2025.
In addition to celebrating the summer solstice, Kroger says the event promotes its All-American Ice Cream Collection, launched ahead of the nation鈥檚 250th birthday.
According to a company news release, the three new flavors are 鈥渋nspired by nostalgic Americana moments,鈥� such as eating cherry pie in a diner, snacking on popcorn during a baseball game鈥檚 seventh inning or enjoying a summer banana split.
The promotion applies to any Kroger-brand ice cream flavor.
