OPINION: Hotel employees went above and beyond

Published

I recently had the great good fortune to fall flat on my face in the most hospitable and caring place I could have chosen to land.

At 78, I was traveling from San Antonio to Durango, Colorado, just me and my small dog, looking for a dog-friendly place to spend one night.

I checked into the beautiful and historic Crowne Plaza Hotel in sa国际传媒官网网页入口, all set to spend one cozy night there and then head north to Durango.

The next morning, out of the blue, I fell 鈥 no fault of the hotel. My glasses were destroyed and my face was bruised, enough for me to wonder if it might be time to hang up my solo traveler鈥檚 cap.

What happened last Monday morning gave me a first impression of sa国际传媒官网网页入口 that will bring me back again and again, I hope. But even if this was a singular encounter, it profoundly impacted me and I have shared it with everyone I know.

The staff of the Crowne Plaza was incredible. For the entire extra day I stayed there, hotel employees brought me meals, ice, drinks and anything I needed 鈥 they even volunteered to take me to a nearby Eyeglass Express to replace my shattered bifocals.

Two dog lovers on staff fed and walked my dog. Jeanette came by several times and asked, 鈥淒oes Luci need a walk?鈥

Scott, Jonathan and Jeanette all checked on me throughout the day, called emergency medical services to rule out a concussion, and communicated directly with my son that I should lay low and not drive for a couple of days.

Suffice it to say, when it was time to leave, I said (teasingly) to those who had been so good to me: 鈥淐an I just live here?鈥

With all the negative press in the world today, this entire experience bolstered my belief in human kindness.

The amenities of the hotel were excellent, of course, but what I will never forget is the warmth and care of the delightful  humans  who went far above and beyond in caring for me and my dog Luci.
